Living On Margarita Island

Tuesday, December 06, 2005

Today rained a little and then the sun came out and dried the land once again. Although the past few weeks have been more wet than I'd like it to be ..... my Chaguaramo tree's are happy. I think I shouldn't complain.

Wow !!!the Island is so packed now ....seems like everyone and their grandmother is here on the island. Sambil mall was so full and it wasn't even the weekend yet. I have also been told that they are no available flights from Caracas to Margarita until Jan.15th at least... if you can believe that. This year has been by far the best year for the Islands tourism.

Lots of people write to ask questions about the island and there just seems to be such an influx of people wanting or at least considering to move here. There certainly is allot of investments going on around. You can see it in all the construction going on everywhere. This already is a special place to me but everyday it becomes more so. Its hasn't looked this good in years ! To those who've been here before but many years ago ..you'll be so surprised to see the changes ..to those that have never been here ..then WELCOME to la Isla De Margarita !

Hello to all of you interested,

Well needless to say it's been very different BUT in a great sort of way. This island life is a very laid-back sort of life style. Everything runs like in slow motion and the locals famous saying is and will always be ...... "mañana mañana !! Which just means tomorrow . Because there ALWAYS is tomorrow, if it can't get done today for them.

The Island weather is beautiful. Yesterday's and today's rain is a welcome to our plants that would thrive a lot better if they were watered with rain water all the time. In the city of Ansuncion here on the Island it's always green and lush....make those of us who don't live there a little green with envious ... literally because my plants will never be as beautiful as those in that area.

The island itself is growing like a weed. When I arrived here over 6 years ago all we had was 3 supermarkets and the Jumbo outdoor mall to go to. Now years later the island has freshly painted roads, new signs, there is construction going on everywhere. The Sambil mall was built in 2001 and is such a great place to shop a little or at least do window shopping and eat out with close friends. After your done at the mall you can always pick up a few groceries at the new Sigo Supermarket right next door or even wash your car here before you leave. Plus the supermarkets have been upgraded and we have newer ones on the island as well. Such as Unicasa, CM was remodeleded, and the newly added Sigo to the Pampatar area next to the Sambil mall.

Going to Porlamar is a part of life but if you don't have to go into town then it's as if you live in a world of your own. The hussle and bussle of town is allot. Many people, lots of shopping, traffic and so on. But on the days that I get to stay home with my children is GREAT ! It's quiet and very nice, I feel selfish at times ...as if we are the only ones here who feel as if we are allowed to live each day as if we are in our own little world.

Our days our full for one thing ...with taking care of 3 Rottweiler dogs, which one of them will soon have a litter of pups. We also have life's daily chores to do as well. We have really enjoyed being able to live here. I always felt as if we were trying to run a rat race living in the states for all my life. I love this island and have no need to go home ...this IS my new home ..Sweet Home Margarita !!
